AquaKeeper for Android
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026 · Applies to the AquaKeeper app (package dev.softing.aquakeeper) published on Google Play.
In short
- Everything you enter in AquaKeeper (tanks, water tests, tasks, livestock, journal, photos, settings) is stored only on your phone. We run no server and have no copy of it.
- There is no account, no sign-in and no analytics or usage tracking in the app.
- Two third-party services receive data from your device: the advertising network (see Advertising) and Google's Firebase Crashlytics, which receives anonymous crash reports that you can turn off in Settings (see Crash reports).
- Uninstalling the app deletes its data. Backups you export are plain text that you control.
- AquaKeeper is not directed at children under 13.
1. Who we are
AquaKeeper is developed and published by the developer named on the app's Google Play listing ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with information on your device and what, if anything, leaves it. If anything here is unclear, write to us at the address in the Contact section.
2. What stays on your phone
AquaKeeper is a local tool. The records below are created by you, stored in the app's private storage on your device, and never transmitted by the app:
- Tanks: name, type, volume, set-up date, notes and the tank gallery.
- Water tests: the parameter values you log, when you logged them and any note you add.
- Maintenance: tasks, schedules, reminder times, completion history, feeding and dosing routines, the cycling tracker.
- Livestock: the species you add to each tank, quantities and notes; your favourite species and comparisons.
- Journal entries, analytics derived from your own records, achievements.
- Settings: units, currency, reminder preferences.
The species database, care guides, Fish Disease Guide and Plant Doctor are built into the app and work without a connection. Using them sends nothing anywhere.
3. What we do not collect
- No account or sign-in: we do not ask for your name, email address or any identifier.
- No analytics or usage tracking: the app contains no such service. The only diagnostic data is the anonymous crash report described in Crash reports.
- No server: we operate no backend, so we have no copy of your tanks or readings and cannot see them.
- No location, contacts, microphone or camera access.
4. Permissions the app asks for
| Permission | Why AquaKeeper needs it |
|---|---|
| Notifications | To show the maintenance reminders you schedule, including the Mark done action in the notification. You can decline it; the app still works, without reminders. |
| Run at start-up | To reschedule your reminders after the phone restarts, so a scheduled water change is not lost. |
| Network access | Used to load ads and to send anonymous crash reports (see below). None of your records are sent over the network by the app. |
5. Crash reports
To find and fix bugs, the Android app uses Firebase Crashlytics, a crash-reporting service of Google LLC. If the app crashes, it sends a report to Google that contains:
- The technical details of the crash: the error, a stack trace and the state of the app's code when it failed.
- Device information: model, Android version, free memory and disk space, orientation and whether the device is rooted.
- The app version and build, the time of the crash, and a randomly generated installation ID that lets Google group reports from the same installation. It is not linked to your name, email address or any account.
The report never includes your tanks, water tests, tasks, livestock, journal entries, photos or notes. We use reports only to fix bugs, and Google processes them under its Firebase privacy information; Crashlytics data is kept for 90 days.
Your choice
Crash reports are on by default and you can turn them off at any time under Settings → Privacy → Send crash reports. When the switch is off, the app sends no crash data. Reports are sent only from the version installed from Google Play, never from test builds.
6. Advertising
AquaKeeper is free and supported by ads served by Google AdMob, an advertising service of Google LLC. When an ad is loaded, the AdMob SDK on your device communicates with Google and may collect and process:
- Your device's advertising ID and general device information (model, operating system version, language, screen size, IP address and the approximate location derived from it).
- Interactions with ads, such as views and clicks, and diagnostic information about ad delivery.
Google uses this to serve and measure ads, to prevent fraud and, where you have consented or where permitted, to personalise ads. How Google handles this data is described in the Google Privacy Policy and in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Your choices
- In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland the app asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time from the privacy options in the app's Settings.
- On any Android phone you can turn off ad personalisation or reset or delete your advertising ID under Settings → Google → Ads (or Settings → Privacy → Ads, depending on the phone).
- Ads need a network connection. Everything else in the app works without one.
We do not share your tanks, readings or any other record you create with the advertising network, and the network does not have access to them.
7. Backups
You can export all your AquaKeeper data as a single block of text from Settings and restore it on another phone. That text is placed on your clipboard and goes only where you paste it; keep it somewhere you trust. If you use Android's backup to your Google Account, Android may include the app's data in that device backup. That backup is made by Android, not by AquaKeeper, and is governed by Google's terms and privacy policy; you can exclude apps from it in your phone's backup settings.
8. Photos
Progress photos you add to a tank are chosen with the system photo picker, which gives the app only the pictures you select. They are stored inside the app's private storage on your device and are included in backups you export. The app never uploads them.
9. Children
AquaKeeper is a general-audience hobby app and is not directed at children under 13 (or the age of digital consent where you live). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app stores no personal data on our side, there is nothing for us to delete; if you believe a child has used the app and has concerns about the advertising network's data, use the choices in the Advertising section and contact us.
10. Retention and deletion
- Your records stay on your device for as long as you keep them. You can delete any tank, reading, task or photo in the app at any time.
- Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android's app settings, removes all of its data from the device.
- Data held by the advertising network is retained according to Google's policies; you can reset or delete your advertising ID as described above. Crash reports are kept by Google for 90 days.
11. Security
Your records are stored in the app's private storage, which other apps on the device cannot read. Protect your phone with a screen lock and treat exported backups as you would any file containing your own notes.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, and to complain to a data protection authority. Because AquaKeeper keeps your records only on your device, you exercise those rights directly: everything is visible in the app, exportable from Settings and deletable by you. For data processed by the advertising network, Google's privacy policy explains your options. We will answer any request or question you send us within 30 days.
13. Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy, for example another third-party service, we will update this page, change the date at the top and mention the change in the app's release notes on Google Play.
